There is no doubt about it – all tours are extremely rewarding for all involved… Seeing children enjoying real-life learning experiences on what for many will be a once-in-a-lifetime journey is a privilege. The most memorable moment on tour, for me, came when I least expected it.
The tour was what I would describe as a ‘standard’ trip to Sorrento. All the regular visits were scheduled to key sites such as Vesuvius, Pompeii, Capri and Amalfi.
The children ranged in age from 13 to 16, and it became apparent from a very early stage in the planning process that many of them had never left their home town before, never mind the UK. In light of this, to see their reactions as they viewed the sights with some level of awe and wonder was an experience that I know both they and I will never forget. When they encountered their first Italian people the children were absolutely and utterly intrigued by how they both looked and spoke. These children had been brought on tour at an extremely influential point in their lives. I am confident that, for many, the tour would have a positive effect on their outlook in later life. This should lead them into young adulthood having enjoyed a unique educational experience. There is no doubt in my mind that this tour was educational on every level. Upon returning from tour the feedback from the teacher was that the students had found my ability to guide and advise on tour invaluable – such satisfying comments after what was a personally rewarding journey. An action-packed itinerary, fabulous scenery and adventure, coupled with a group of students who were extremely receptive to new experiences and culture, provided us all with a journey we will never forget.
One word to describe your most amazing tour moment… Rewarding
